Wally Reinhardt lived in Rome with his partner, the painter Robert Keyser, for a few years in the 1970s. There he became infatuated with Ovid’s “Metamorphoses,” that freewheeling ancient anti-epic whose tales of gods and monsters inspired so many masterpieces of Baroque and Renaissance art.
