一所大学文科的底蕴、财力和水准，看看他们的博物馆，一般都能八九不离十。纽约大学有建筑、摄影、服装设计、珍本特藏和古典艺术等领域的展馆，分布在华盛顿广场周边以及第五大道沿线各处，常年都有与教学研究相关的成果展；而位于库珀广场18号的格雷艺术博物馆（Grey Art Museum）则是一家相对综合的美术馆，以中东艺术、战后美国艺术和二十世纪前后的欧洲艺术收藏著称。去年10月到今年3月的特展《给巴黎前卫艺术品经销商贝尔特·韦尔让路》，引发了媒体的普遍关注，很大程度上是因为艺术家的回顾展常有，而推出这些艺术家的经理人却鲜少有同等的台上风光。一旦这些最知道艺术家及其艺术品底细的“狠角色”，被研究者挖掘出来且被推到前台，观赏者大多是会恍然而后大悟的。
