Krishna, Chitrangada
Composition, n.d.
Daughter of Devayani and Kanwal Krishna, Chitrangada was raised in an artistic household. In this etching, she stretches a net pattern across the plate to hint at three-dimensional space, while abruptly flattening the picture plane with a cluster of red and white spots at the lower left. Chitrangada grew up spending time at the Modern School, a haven for avant-garde artists active throughout Delhi where her parents worked in the 1960s and ’70s. She married the Modern School’s head of photography, O. P. Sharma, and became a noted photographer in her own right.
