David Pagel, Assistant Professor of Art Theory and History, Claremont Graduate University, art critic for the Los Angeles Times, and co-curator of the exhibition, will discuss his work as a newspaper critic and curator, addressing the function of art criticism in a mercantile democracy, the relationship between expertise and accessibility, and art criticism as an important and beleaguered component of public discourse today.
