Last Turn–Your Turn: Bridging Art and Science on a Changing Planet

In conjunction with the exhibition Handle with Care: Robert Rauschenberg's Ecological Conscience
September 9, 2025–April 11, 2026

In 1991 American artist Robert Rauschenberg created a print for the United Nations called Last Turn–Your Turn, which bears his pledge “to make the earth a secure and hospitable home for present and future generations.” Nearly thirty-five years later, in conjunction with NYC Climate Week, join us for an interdisciplinary panel in the spirit of Rauschenberg’s art and activism. Russell Reed, geographer and climate activist, will lead a discussion with experts in climate change, animal studies, and art to probe environmental issues in the United States and reflect on art’s potential to create global change.

Panelists include:

  • Paul Gallay, Director, Resilient Coastal Communities Project, Center for Sustainable Urban Development, Columbia Climate School
  • Gal Nissim, Artist and Adjunct Professor of Environmental Studies and Animal Studies, NYU
  • Kat Poje, Faculty Fellow, Department of Environmental Studies, NYU
  • Phoebe Herland, Ph.D. Candidate, Institute of Fine Arts, NYU

A reception will follow the discussion.
