Through the Viewfinder: Midcentury New York Artists in Photography, Film, and Mass Media

Investigating the roles played by photography, film, and mass media, this program explores the New York art world’s dynamic rise to international prominence in the 1950s and ’60s. Participants include Dore Ashton, Professor of Art History, Cooper Union; Douglas Dreishpoon, Curator, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Vincent Katz, poet, critic, and cocurator of the exhibition; Rebekah Kowal, Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Performance Studies and Assistant Professor of English, Haverford College; and Brian Wallis, Director of Exhibitions and Chief Curator, International Center of Photography. Moderated by Alyosha Goldstein, Ph.D. Candidate, American Studies Program, New York University.
