Speakers will explore the rise of interest in the architecture of Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and the Russian Constructivists—and the activities of Barr, Johnson, and Henry-Russell Hitchcock in promoting their work in the U.S. Moderated by Jean-Louis Cohen, Sheldon H. Solow Professor in the History of Architecture, Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, with Barry Bergdoll, Meyer Schapiro Professor of Art History & Archaeology, Columbia University, Curator of Architecture & Design, Museum of Modern Art, and catalogue essayist for Partners in Design; and Nina Stritzler-Levine, Director, Bard Graduate Center Gallery.
