This evening of performances features choreography by Ronald K. Brown, founder and artistic director of Evidence, and William Forsythe, along with student works. Included is Brown’s Serving Nia, which focuses on a leader who teaches her followers to serve a higher purpose than oneself. The work’s title plays on the word “Nia,” a woman’s name that means “purpose” in Swahili. Infused with percussive Afro-Jazz, this dynamic piece is presented before a backdrop of photographs by Deborah Willis, Professor and Chair of Photography and Imaging, Tisch School of the Arts, NYU.
Annual performance series by the Second Avenue Dance Company, the student company of NYU’s Department of Dance, TSOA. Free of charge. Information: http://dance.nyu.edu, tisch.dance@nyu.edu, 212/998-1982.
