Panel
Rocking Fashion: Françoise Hardy, Courtney Love, Patti Smith, DEVO

In conjunction with the exhibition Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia

Zip-up coveralls, safety helmets, swim goggles, plastic wigs, ziggurat-shaped “energy domes,” rubber face masks, skating gear—just a few of the many items employed by frontman Mark Mothersbaugh and his band DEVO both onstage and in their music videos. This panel will examine how DEVO and other musicians of our time employ clothing and accessories to craft their stage personas. Moderated by Nancy Deihl, Director of Costume Studies MA Program, NYU, with speakers Anna Burckhardt, Intern, and Stephanie Kramer, Research Assistant, both Department of Architecture and Design, Museum of Modern Art; and Colleen Hill, Curator of Costume and Accessories, The Museum of FIT.

Co-organized by NYU’s MA Program in Costume Studies (Steinhardt) and Grey Art Gallery.
