Celebrating the release of Unseen Cinema, a 7-disc DVD archival retrospective collection of 150 rare American avant-garde movies, this panel discussion on film preservation  is preceded by a screening including Annabelle Dances, 1894; Manhatta, 1921; Beggar on Horseback, 1925; Ballet mécanique,1924; Manhattan Medley, 1931; Footlight Parade, 1933; Spook Sport, 1940; and Native Land, 1941, as well as George L.K. Morris’s Abstract Movies, 1939–47, which were on view in The Park Avenue Cubists exhibition at the Grey in 2003. Speakers include David H. Shepard, DVD Producer and Film Preservationist, Film Preservation Associates; Bruce Posner, Curator, Unseen Cinema, and Robert A. Haller, Director of Collections and Special Projects, both of Anthology Film Archives; and Howard Besser, Director, Program in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation, NYU Department of Cinema Studies.
