Film Screening and Discussion | Something Terrible Happens…sometimes

Longform Content

The Grey Art Museum and A Closer Look, Inc. invite you to Something Terrible Happens…sometimes, a special event on confronting and addressing personal childhood trauma through art and animation. This evening will showcase three animated short films:

No Last Name by Josey N/A (NYU Tisch, Class of ’24)

The Dog Tied to the Shed by Clove Lee (NYU Tisch, Class of ’24)

Something Terrible Happened to Joey directed by veteran filmmaker Joseph Lovett

A discussion panel will follow with the filmmakers, Dr. Christina Grosso, artist and faculty in the Department of Art and Art Professions (NYU Steinhardt), and Dr. Michelle R. Munson, faculty in NYU’s Silver School of Social Work.

The evening will conclude with a small reception.

This event is a pilot for A Closer Look’s “Something Terrible Happens… sometimes” outreach program, bringing creative ways to deal with childhood trauma to schools, programs, and community organizations across the country.

The second logo, at the top-right, features stylized uppercase letters "SA" with the words "STUDENT ANIMATION LEAGUE" beneath in a vibrant color scheme, using white, blue, pink, and yellow. There is also a backdrop of colorful geometric shapes. The third logo, at the bottom left, represents NYU Steinhardt, showing a purple torch icon alongside "NYU | STEINHARDT" in uppercase letters. Below, it reads, "Department of Art and Art Professions Graduate Art Therapy Program" in black and purple text. The fourth logo, at the bottom right, shows another NYU emblem, the purple torch, followed by "NYU" and "SILVER SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK" in a simple, modern font.
