New York University’s Grey Art Museum presents a revelatory exhibition of artists associated with the pioneering French gallerist, including Matisse, Picasso and Modigliani.

Occasionally an exhibition is as art-historically groundbreaking as it is visually arresting. Rarely, however, will it also force scholars to rewrite the origin story of European modernism. But such is the case with the aptly titled “Make Way for Berthe Weill: Art Dealer of the Parisian Avant-Garde”—an enlightening, beautifully orchestrated show of some 110 paintings, sculptures, jewelry and works on paper, on view through March 1 at New York University’s Grey Art Museum.
