TOM SOKOLOWSKI INTERNSHIP FUND

Donations to the Tom Sokolowski Internship Fund will help provide financial support to future Grey Art Museum student interns. Tom Sokolowski (1950–2020) was director of the Grey Art Gallery from 1984 to 1996. His capacious intelligence and sharp wit informed the groundbreaking exhibitions he initiated at the Grey. Tom was also an NYU alum and an irrepressibly enthusiastic and supportive mentor to the students he supervised; this named internship honors his memory.

Gifts to this fund are 100% tax deductible.

If you would like to make a donation by mail, wire transfer, or stock transfer please email Laurie Duke, Associate Director, Finance and Administration, at laurie[.]duke[at]nyu[.]edu.

GIVING GROUPS

We hope you will seriously consider joining one of the Grey Art Museum’s Giving Groups, described below. As New York City’s leading university museum, the Grey not only contributes to this international arts capital’s cultural vibrancy but also provides students (many of whom have never visited a museum before) with a friendly, unintimidating experience and the opportunity to view provocative, mind-expanding shows. Although New York University covers our basic operating expenses, the Grey must raise funds to support our exhibitions, publications, and public programs. Our Giving Group members appreciate the crucial role played by university museums—educating the next generation about the importance of art and visual literacy. Grey Giving Group members are entitled to attend the gallery’s VIP receptions, to receive discounts on publications, and to participate in special Grey Art Museum–organized events. Please donate and advance this important cause! For more information, please call Laurie Duke at the Grey Art Museum, 212/998-6780 or email her at laurie[.]duke[at]nyu[.]edu.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS

On Campus Student Employment

Student employment opportunities at the Grey Art Museum are limited to enrolled New York University students. All student employment hiring is managed through Handshake. Active jobs can be viewed by filtering for Grey Art Museum as a Division under NYU. Jobs should be applied to in Handshake and not by our contact email. For general NYU student on-campus employment questions, please reach out to The Wasserman Center for Career Development. For Grey Art Museum—specific questions please contact us directly at greyartmuseum@nyu.edu.

Internships

NYU students are invited to apply for the Grey Art Museum’s undergraduate and graduate internships which offer valuable experience in the everyday workings of a university art museum. Tasks may include assisting with research for exhibitions, cataloguing works of art, helping with public programs, consulting on the Grey’s social media, and giving museum talks. Please note: Grey Art Museum internships are reserved for students who are currently enrolled at NYU or accepted for a future term at NYU’s New York City campus. Undergraduate students applying for paid positions must be an NYU-affiliated student with an active Federal Work-Study award. If an intern’s NYU department offers academic credit for internships, we are glad to work with them in fulfilling the requirements.

Available positions will be posted on Handshake in the late spring and/or early summer for the following academic year. Active jobs can be viewed by filtering for Grey Art Museum as a Division under NYU. Jobs should be applied to in Handshake and not by our contact email.

Graduate Curatorial Assistantship

NYU Institute of Fine Arts students are invited to apply for the Grey’s annual Graduate Curatorial Assistantship. Graduate Curatorial Assistants may research upcoming exhibitions; help with loans, publications, files, press, studio visits, library, and correspondence; write educational texts and exhibit labels; and give gallery tours.

Hours are flexible, approximately 20 per week. Applications will open in the spring on Handshake.

The Student Friends Committee

The Student Friends Committee (SFC) is a working group that fosters student leadership by connecting the NYU student body to the Grey Art Museum, NYU’s fine arts museum. We aim to provide a platform that allows students to form working relationships with campus and community partners, support emerging generations of cultural leaders, and learn more about contemporary and modern art.
